Variable Speed Drive vs. Servo Motor Drive

The term "electric motor" typically refers to ac induction motors or dc motors. Servo motors are a completely different animal with far different applications.

Speed control and torque control have historically been the chief advantages of dc motors and drives. However, newer technologies have allowed ac motors to provide these functions along with many others. Application and cost, therefore, become the deciding factors.

We commonly use drives to get speed control in any application. Another use is to protect the hardware from abnormalities and get a better control.

Before only servo drive used to run by feedback given by motor but now a days we can also use variable speed drive while taking feedback from motor both is used for control position, velocity and save power, but servo drive we used to control by plc according to what we write the program but variable speed drive used to control by plc program written in it and we can't modified more vsd plc program but we can make any program for servo drive while using plc.
